I did not expect that when I became a professional photographer that I would travel more than I ever have. I've worked all over the country, from north to south, and in all types of different places such as an exclusive private school, an industrial kitchen to being on the roof of a castle keep! I'm not good with heights so that was quite an achievement for me!!
When I'm booked for a wedding, if I have not shot at the venue before I will always visit the location approx 4 weeks before the wedding - this lets me see where the sun will be (assuming it shines), I'll meet with the wedding co-ordinator and talk through how the day will work - this gives me so much insight into how the day will run, the best place to take the group photos if wet or dry and even down to any roadworks impending en-route. Even if I have shot at a venue before, venues like to change their landscapes or interiors, or may be having renovations done - so many factors to consider!!
The shot below is from the beach at Troon.... I had had a meeting at the lovely Lochgreen House Hotel, and had explored the beach after. I love how you can see the kite surfers just below the horizon, they go so fast!
